Tigersharks Andrew Smith and Gabriella Doughty arrived in Sheffield for the ASA Summer Home Nationals with the hope of swimming well. They did not disappoint themselves or their coach.
Andrew Smith had his work cut out as a 13 year old swimming in a 13/14year age group. Entered into the 100m & 50m Butterfly he had worked hard to nail the basic skills particularly in his starts, turn and finishes. His first swim was 100m Butterfly where he produced a super PB time and finished in a creditable 12th place overall. That swim blew out the cobwebs and got rid of the nerves and the 50m Butterfly saw a much more focused and determined swimmer. The heat swim saw him PB and move into the final as the only 13 year old amongst all 14 year old swimmers. In the final Andrew produced another PB and outstanding swim time of 28.11 finishing in 7th place overall and placing himself 2nd in the British rankings for 13 year olds. A great experience and result.
Gaby Doughty is a sprint specialist and works hard to achieve her goals. Swimming in the 50m and 100m Backstroke she was delighted to be competing at her first National competition. In the 50m Backstroke Gaby started very well producing a PB and moving into the final in 4th place. She stepped it up again in the final to lower her PB again to 31.89 and maintain her 4th place finish over all.
Unfortunately the second day saw Gaby feeling unwell which had an adverse effect on her 100m swim. However she was delighted with her swimming over the two days and particularly the outstanding 50m swim.
