Tigersharks turn it on at the Wiltshire’s
January saw the start of the Wiltshire county championships with the youngest swimmers up first to compete is what is the first step is for many on their road to success. Tigersharks have always done well in the younger age groups and this year was no different with a huge number of personal best times, regional consideration and qualifying times.
For many of our swimmers this was their first experience of county championships and the opportunity to test themselves outside of their own club environment. Ryan Sheehan who still has another year in his age group was on fire throughout the championships winning 6 gold medals including an Age Group Best time in the 100m fly as he dominated the fly and backstroke event. Reuben Buckton got the best of the freestyle events with 2 golds and Freddie Logan joined them with a 400 IM victory. This does not tell the full story, however, with Tigersharks providing 5 out of the 6 finalists in both the 100m FC and the 100m Fly as Connor Sherriffs and James Trevithick joined Ryan, Reuben and Freddie in the finals.
The girls 10 & 11year olds were also in great form. Ffion Mathias taking a clean sweep of the breaststroke events and the 400 FC. Neve Porton, who is still only 10, won 3 golds with a determined display of swimming and Jessica Lawniczak (also 10) made the podium in the breaststroke events.
In the older age groups Jessica Smith and Isabella Thomson dominated the 12 year old age group battling it out for supremacy taking the first and second positions in many events. Isabella ending up with 6 golds and Jessica 2 plus both taking numerous other podium positions. Not to be outdone Alfie Smithson showed his aptitude for the longer events taking gold in the 200m FC, Fly and the 400 IM with Owen Jackson also getting on the podium in a number of events.
Other medallists included Maddison Gottfried, Lavinia Morsani Jones, Connor Sherriffs, James Trevithick and Tom Dubarry but there were also numerous personal bests and strong performances from everyone involved.
Overall it was a very strong start to the year for Tigersharks and the youngest swimmers have laid down the challenge to the older swimmer. 2018 is looking good for the club.
Moving onto the Standard Long Distance events (Boys 1500m FC and Girls 800m FC), Tigersharks continued to show their strength and ability over these swims.
Ffion Mathias, Freddy Logan, Isabella Thompson, Laura Edwards, Marshall Fitchett all produced gold medal swims. Grace Osman, Emily Preedy, Alfie Smithson, Owen Jackson & Harvie Greenwood swam to silver medal placings and Maddie Gottfried, Matilda Hart, Tom Dubarry, James Andrew, Edward Smith & Sam Dubarry all swam outstanding races to take Bronze medals in their age groups. Every Tigershark swimmer was on superb form.
