July 2021 – Sharks in the Lake!!!..... Swim a Mile!! Tigersharks Masters do it for Phil!!!

A team of 8 Tigersharks Masters swimmers competed in the Cotswold Big Swim event on Saturday 4th July at Lake 32 in South Cerney, in the squad’s first competitive outing since its formation last year and the easing of Covid restrictions. The event incorporating a 1 or 2 mile open water race around the lake, saw some 250 competitors take to the 19c degree water early on the Saturday morning.

All 8 Tigersharks swimmers competed in the 1 mile race and a superb team effort and great individual racing saw the team dominate the event and take 6 out of the top 7 places at the finish, securing the inaugural Phil Millard Memorial Top Team Trophy. This had special resonance for all, as Phil was a previous Head Coach of Tigersharks for many years and his daughter Alison, now trains and competes in the Masters squad.

In addition to the team trophy there was individual success in the overall, senior, 40+ & 50+ male & female age group categories.

Lizzie Yarnell: 1st Woman Overall & 1st Senior.

Sarah Forbes: 2nd Women overall & 1st in 50+

Nigel Masters: 2nd Men’s overall and 1st in men’s 50+

Stuart Gibbs: 3rd Men’s overall and 1st in Men’s 40+

Jon Audis: 4th Men’s overall and 2nd in Men’s 40+

Dave Quinliven: 5th Men’s overall and 2nd in Men’s 50+

Jo Blount: 7th Woman’s overall

Alison Millard: – 2nd in Women’s 40+

The day returned a fantastic team result, great individual success and a fitting tribute to Tigersharks previous Head Coach, Phil Millard, together with a great deal of fun and a wealth of team spirit.

With further open water events and the return of pool competitions hopefully on the near horizon, the Squad will be looking to grow and continue their success as the year progresses.
